Pioneers of Spread betting and the largest UK company

IG index is part of the IG Group Holdings plc, a UK company listed on the London Stock Exchange. The group has over 100,000 clients around the world, and makes more than one million transactions per month, 95% of them online.  The company was the pioneer of spread betting.  It was the world’s first spread betting company when it was established in the 1974 to give investors the opportunity to bet on movements in the price of gold.  Since then it has expanded rapidly, particularly since the mid-1990s.
